Developing insight through creativity

About me

I am an HCPC registered Art Psychotherapist, based in Brighton, with over 15 years experience of working therapeutically with children and families. I have worked in schools, privately and for the NHS and have an in-depth understanding of the mental health sector and of child development.

I work with children individually, children and parents together and offer parent coaching. I also support front line professionals, such as teachers, cultural workers and other therapists, through consultation, training and supervision.

Whether I am providing supervision, therapy or practical advice, a crucial element of my service is being approachable, non judgemental and collaborative. Transformation and growth rely on a trusting, attuned and accepting relationship and I ensure that clients are able to express themselves freely and creatively in my presence. I strive to create an inclusive space that is safe and welcoming to people of all backgrounds, where difference and identity can be explored.

Specialist areas that I support include: anxiety, depression, attachment issues, fostering and adoption, bereavement, trauma, parental divorce and separation, and domestic or sexual abuse. I have post qualified training in dyadic, trauma-informed and environmental therapy approaches as well as supervision.

I offer sessions online or in person in the Sussex area.

Thank you for Friday's session and for your sand tray online resource. I used it today with some girls and it was amazing.

Karen is an outstanding therapist who has made a real difference to the lives of pupils in our school. Karen possesses excellent skills in connecting with others, creating a safe space for staff, parents and pupils to discuss a range of issues. Her expertise, compassion, and dedication are truly commendable and we have really benefited from her thorough understanding of child development and psychology.

Our family sessions with you were incredibly helpful. Thank you very much indeed. I am definitely going to carry on your approach at home - I can absolutely see the benefit. Thank you.

Emily has certainly enjoyed her sessions with you and will miss you. I’m sure that they have had a positive impact on her.

Our son has completely turned around since we had our parent support sessions with you and is simply wonderful at the moment. He is back to his normal self at home, being very happy, caring and kind. He is especial kind and caring with his sister and just the best brother ever now. As a family, we are happy and content.

Our son has really matured emotionally and I am very grateful for your input, we have both benefited from it enormously. Your support over lockdown was also very welcome.

I feel like I can be myself here and that makes me happy.

Playing and making art with you helps me to know how I am feeling and its fun!

This is my favourite time in school.

I now feel better about my worries and know how to handle my feelings.
